I’m also finding that the 7/16″ Frost King foam tape supplied is too thick, making it really hard to close the doors. I tried MD brand foam tape (also 7/16″) from Home Depot. Also too thick. ArtisticAdam, how’d you like the Trim-Lok D-Shaped Rubber Seal over time? Do you know what dimensions you used? Any other suggestions from others? Should I go to 5/16″ of Frost King? The MD brand from Home Depot is a little more dense.
pwebster25ParticipantKim, I like what you’ve done with your custom galley box. Simple and flexible. Would you mind posting a couple closeups of base and top and joints on edges? Anything you would recommend doing differently? Thanks
pwebster25ParticipantHow long do y’all need to wait after the second coat of epoxy before primer and then paint? I’ve got the LV Expoxy and Slow hardener by MAS from CLC, that just comes standard with the kit, and it is about 70 degrees. If the epoxy has a smooth coat do you sand with 220 before primer? I’m not used to the terminology with brush on paints, as I’ve done spray on epoxy primers in automotive applications. I’m working on building my own ICC under the teardrop.
pwebster25ParticipantThanks, Dan and Kim. Both of your responses were really helpful. I ordered 2 quarts of varnish. Hopefully that will do it for the TD and box. I’m painting my self-made ICC under it with black marine paint.
pwebster25ParticipantDan (or others) –
Thanks for your thorough posts. Really helpful. It looks like you ended up buying 3 quarts of varnish. Was that about right for the whole TD, outside and inside? I’m trying to gauge how much to buy.
Also, do y’all have good recommends on marine varnish? Currently, I can find Duralux varnish for about $30 per quart, including shipping. I don’t see many local vendors with marine varnish or marine paint. I’m in Idaho, so not exactly a boat-building mecca.
pwebster25ParticipantThanks for sharing. How do you access your boxes? I don’t see doors or hatches in the side. I assume drawers in the back, but…
Do you have floor access?
How well has yours sealed?
pwebster25ParticipantGot any pics of your box underneath?
January 12, 2022 at 12:05 am in reply to: Plans for Designing your own Cargo Space Under CLC TD #4116pwebster25ParticipantThanks, Daniel. We are a long way from PA. We’re in Idaho. Hopefully, will get to see more of the Country once our build is done. I appreciate your good ideas. I like your height of 6″ vs 9″ on the kit.
Any more designs out there, folks, for DIY Cargo space between trailer and TD?
pwebster25ParticipantThanks, Daniel, that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for. How do you access the water tank in the central compartment over the axle? Where do you tend to take in water? Did you use epoxy fillets to attach the TD to the open top of the storage compartment? Looks like yours matches the footprint of the TD.
pwebster25ParticipantDid it work? If so, can post a finished pic?
pwebster25ParticipantThanks, JB.
Does anyone have pics of that setup? Are there any concerns with sturdiness on the 6″ past the frame on each side?
Thx
Paul
pwebster25ParticipantHey, I am thinking about building a CLC on a 4×8 Harbor Freight trailer I already have. CLC mentions HF as an option, but it seems the CLC is designed for a 5×8 platform. Anyone got specifics for adapting for a 4×8 HF trailer? It’s got 1450# capacity and 12″ wheels.
