Would there be any issue when you bend the wood with the hole shape changing/interfering with things? Most of the mushroom vents are on pretty flat surfaces – maybe not the front ones (I didn’t install those). This would be my concern. I would also be worried about dips in the fibreglass over those holes…

BUT on the plus side, the through cuts would be nicely waterproofed if you could epoxy them. As a person in the PNW this would have been a plus for me.

    Best of luck…

    Hi Mike –

I have used velcro to attach my headliner (although to be fair, I tried to use a different material – cork flooring underlayment – as it was cheaper). I have had issues with the entire process. The Velcro has come off the camper walls, places, and all off the cork (this is my biggest issue). This happened this summer when it was warm (35C) and the trailer was in storage. We will see what else happens to it at -40C this winter.

I am not sure how the velcro would stick to the CLC headliner, but that would be my biggest concern… Up to this point, I think it stuck to the trailer walls fairly well.

    Best of luck,

    Joe

Good Morning jclover41 – I had my teardrop mounted on a 4×6 trailer so maybe this will help. Maybe not.

I just drilled custom mounting holes on the trailer and attached the teardrop with carriage bolts. I had put a 1/2″ sheet of marine grade plywood down (painted with rubberized paint) to gain an extra height (in addition to the risers that CLC included).

My teardrop overhung the wheel fenders. I had to lower them. This caused an issue where they banged into the bottom of the teardrop (mind you I was on rough logging roads)!! Be cautious here….

I don’t suggest removing the fenders. Crap will bang into the bottom of the trailer. To gain extra height (and allow for lowering the fenders) have you considered flipping the axle to a spring over axle configuration as opposed to spring under (if applicable)? Some folks use hockey pucks (I will be doing this in the future).

Lengthening the tongue is a good idea – I had issues with backing up with a shorter tongue. Just watch your tongue weight for handling at speed.

Best of luck – happy to answer more questions.

    Hello –

I did not use the vent on the CLC site – I used a fantastic fan but I am not sure if it is the same as what CLC offers (YMMV).

I installed a MaxxAir Black Flanmate Cover: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B010D1VJSC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it does a good job at keeping water from coming in.

    Best,

    Joe

    Hi Sturg:

I am not in WA or OR, but I am up in BC partway up Vancouver Island (Comox Valley). Due to my work schedules, where I work and where the trailer is my timing may not be overly flexible. I know that this may be further than ideal but it is potentially an option. If it is of interest let me know and we could touch base.

I hope that there is someone easier for you šŸ™‚

Hi – as a quick follow up. I drilled the holes but I did not end up stitching it in place. I just placed weights on top. This way it the glue would be under the Ender before placing, and it covered the holes (wires would not be removable so I skipped it.

    Hi RCICH

Great timing, I was about to start the glueing process on my hatch.

I read through the the book and there was no indication that the authors stitched the hatch in place. However, I plan on stitching the corners in place (two on each side). When I was lining this up I had to drill holes in both the hatch and through the trailer -> the holes did not align well.

Just my 2 cents, and Iā€™m off to do it. I will let you know how it goes once it is cured (will be this weekend).

    Best wishes for your build,

Hello – I did notice in the emails that I received from CLC, was that they have a sale on gift cards where they add ? 10% ? to the amount of the card. When I was planning out my build I bought the gift card and then bought the trailer. I waited for a while (3 months getting my building space sorted out, and planning how to get the trailer kit to Canada (another story)). This paid off in the long run because CLC had another sale where they had a discount on the galley module. I was able to pay for the gift card, and I think I was able to save approximately 500$…

I agree with the sentiment to not cheap out. However, being frugal or strategic by taking advantages of deals like this is not necessarily cheap šŸ™‚
