Finished the CLC Teardrop in 2021 but added the CLC Mill Creek 16.5 Hybrid this year. Maiden voyage last weekend to Sleepy Hollow State Park, MI.sandmanParticipant
we added a storage box/backrest at the front of the cabin. The lid pops off and provides storage for blankets, pillows, etc. Uses some if the precious floor space but still leaves plenty if sleeping space for my 5’10” height. The backrest function works great for reading a book or watching tv.sandmanParticipantOur second outing was camping Rend Lake and biking Tunnel Hill but I’m not sure when we might be headed that way again. Good luck with your build.
sandmanParticipantI’m in central Illinois (Congerville) and would be happy to show it. It’s been “done” for about 5 months and we’ve camped in it 4 times so far. I’d even let you try it out here if you would like to…we live in the middle of timber and have a nice camping area.
sandmanParticipantI also used a stiffener in about the middle of the hatch.
its made with a piece of 1/2” thick solid oak and installed with a couple epoxy/wood flour fillets.sandmanParticipantI didn’t use the supplied latch but instead used a pair of latches that I bought on Amazon. “YUSOVE Boat Anti-Rattle Latch 316 Stainless Steel Lockable Hold Down Clamp Latch,Marine Hatch Hardware Fasteners,Pack of 2”. Works great!
sandmanParticipantThe cooling seems to be a function of the ability to dissipate the heat. When the hatch is closed and there is limited ventilation for the fridge..it doesn’t do too well. I am also trying to dissipate heat from the inverter/charger into the same galley space so that doesn’t help the situation. I’ve ordered a small cooling fan that I plan to install in the wall between the galley and cabin that I hope will help the situation. The fridge is a “Cooluli Infinity Black 15 Liter Compact Portable Cooler Warmer Mini Fridge for Bedroom, Office, Dorm, Car – Great for Skincare & Cosmetics (110-240V/12V)” that I bought on Amazon. If the hatch is open the fridge does fine.
sandmanParticipantI built a pair of screen doors for my camper that seem to work pretty well…unless it’s raining. I open one of the doors and insert the screen door that anchors in place with a couple slide bolts leaving the regular door open. We enter and exit through the other regular door. Still waiting to decide whether to add a mini-split air conditioner. My mini fridge operates on a peltier system and while it doesn’t use a lot of power it also doesn’t cool to a consistent temperature.
sandmanParticipantI’ve got Trailex with 12” wheels and axle mounted over the springs. Lowest profile Thule feet but no integrated cargo carrier. Overall height is 66.5” to the top of the rails.
sandmanParticipantI used custom decals like those readily available online for boat transoms. They are applied over the top of the final coat of varnish. Pretty easy to apply with the proper rub-on tools and can be changed later if necessary.
Good luck,
GarysandmanParticipantYes. I had three pieces damaged in shipping and CLC quickly replaced with new parts at no additional charge.

sandmanParticipantMine comes out of the form this week, but I’m in central Illinois
