I discovered the sylvansport awning that zips into the sylvansport go camper. I secured it with alligator clips and suction cups. It rained last night and it worked well! I can also clip additional panels to the side if we need more coverage from rain

    Hi Bob,

No big issues. It needs finish work and some sanding in spots to level it out a little, but no different than the camper build proceeded. It isn’t perfect… yet 😉. There are bits of epoxy that need sanding and the doors need to be installed. We reused the hardware so some of that you would need to repurchase (i.e. hinges and latches). We wanted a different layout in the galley after we installed it. Also, I made an initial error in my mold which changed the dimensions in the galley and it didn’t fit quite right for my build. Attached is how we redesigned the galley. It has flexible dividers that let us adjust what we include based on our needs

We just picked one up and we have it sitting on the top of the galvanized tongue box. It is just perfect. My husband said he wouldn’t go camping in the summer humidity unless I figured out the AC issue. I got two batteries and the power extender which increases the time the battery will run. I store it in a plastic tote for travel. I used silicon reducer connectors to tie into the mushroom vents to vent the air and recirculate the cool air. Waiting for warmer weather to see how well it works in the humidity, but in the garage at 80 degrees, I needed a blanket inside! Success👍

So I tried this method and ended up with leaks because too much butyl was squeezed out during installation. At first I didn’t think this was the cause, but then I climbed into the galley and had my husband close me inside while he sprayed the lid with water. Turns out the gasket is so tight when you install it, we squeezed a lot of the butyl out of the connection, allowing water to penetrate right under the gasket material. If you do i stall the gasket this way, be sure to use plenty of butyl and make sure it encloses around the outer lip of the gasket. Our solution to this issue (because we didn’t want to redo that step) was to apply clear silicon on the entire outside lip of the gasket to keep water from passing through the areas where we had less butyl. It worked! No leaks – from that issue anyway. We still have issues with water rolling in from the drip edge on the side and we’re solving that with an additional piece of expandable foam that compresses down from 1.5” to 1/4” to fill any remaining voids that allow water to enter.

@madebymike60, I had that issue too when I brushed on the contact cement. I found the roller did a much better job getting an even coat. I used a disposable brush for the backside though because I could apply a more narrow line of adhesive along the edge and keep it only on the vinyl overlap area.

I got my inspiration from many who have posted here and I’m so thankful for this forum and what I’ve gleaned from everyone! 😊

@madebymike60, my husband and I totally agree! I’ve never been so honored than when I took this camper on the road and had people all across the country acknowledge our hard work! Absolutely loving it and looking forward to our next adventure. Thinking of Acadia National Park in the fall (with lots of little trips in between!)

I picked up a Kelty side tent/awning and it rocks! It provides us with so many applications, either off the side or over the galley. I got the wrong height tent poles and reordered the taller ones (up to 8’) which will offer plenty of headroom. I’m also going to pick up a Gazelle screen tent bc they have the zip up privacy sides and we’ll use that as a staging area. So many options with the kelty and the gazelle- great quality gear too.
