when put the first door together, I eyeballed the length of the upper activation rod, and it ended up long enough to go through the guide that is attached to the door sill, but just barely. today, I added a bit more thickness to the weather stripping, which made the door harder to close and I needed the proper length of activation rod.
I had saved the excess rod. i used my MAPP torch to heat the end to cherry red, and pounded it with a hammer on an anvil to flatten the end, and then drilled a 1/4″ hole to match the original rod.
