After releasing the shell from the mold and finish sanding my mind turned to a little decoration on the hatch.

It takes a brave or foolhardy man to take a hot iron to the freshly sanded handiwork. Think I am more of the latter, but after having previously messed around on a kayak project with wood burning with a soldering iron I went all in this time:

For the bird spotters: two Common Loons and male and female Red Winged Blackbirds among the cattails – both common where I like to camp.

Nice work! I added the Oly beer logo to my transom. The okume burns quite evenly. I was afraid the glass, epoxy and varnish might fade the char too much but it didn’t, so I could have tried some more detail. Your’s will be stunning.

Wow! That is stunning. I can’t wait to it under the finish.

After 4 coats of epoxy I am quite pleas3ed with how the burn shows through:

    Rovineye,

Did you purchase your Hopitat letters from CLC?  I’m looking at getting mine there but they have several sizes too choose from.  What size are your letters?

    Kevin,

Custom Vinyl Boat Lettering – Green
    3″ – Futura

Went on super easy and no sign of letters lifting or tearing.

I added glitter to my overall look.  This made the finish a bit grittier and I’ve added another coat or two of varnish.

My dream machine.  Thinking of adding a unicorn horn to the front.

And no, I’m not joshn’.  I’m getting close to finished, I’ll have pictures soonish…

My biggest regret is not taking more pictures during the process…
