ParticipantIt is a long process with solo many steps. Just plug along and eat that elephant one bite at a time. You will be rewarded and encouraged at the big milestones .
Don’t fret too much about minor imperfections. As Mike said, most can be fixed. Yeah, you will always notice that hole you drilled through/plywood sand through/fillet bubble or whatever. No one else will and after you enjoy it on a few trips you won’t care about it either.
No need to think of every little thing at once. You will modify and add things in the years to come.
Make your workspace floor somewhat level. If it is off kilter, everything else will be in the end.
That first epoxy and flies job? Just get through it and learn and don’t overwork it. It won’t show in the completed project and trust me, you will be a pro at that in the end where it counts and the process will be second nature.
I measured my epoxy by weight rather than by pumps. The weight ratios are on the epoxy manufacturers web site, and I keep a 3×5 card with several batch size ratios listed. Super quick and only requires a cheap kitchen scale. Much more accurate. Cover that scale with a plastic bag though.

ParticipantStung,
I’m back and free for the next few weeks. When/if you have a date in mind let me know and I will contact you at the # you listed with my address and phone number.

ParticipantI may not be back in town until 9th of July. Probably sooner, like the 7th, but can’t be sure.

ParticipantI’m in olympia. I’m home more often than on the road and usually available.

ParticipantSorry to hear. At least your username fits.
As I am out and about in the PNW with my trailer I will keep you in mind as there are always plenty of people asking about the source of plans and material.
Later in the summer is the wooden boat show in Pt Townsend and CLC is usually there. Not sure how you could ethically use that to your advantage but their trailer always draws a huge crowd.

ParticipantMine is potable. Left mounted it could be more susceptible to damage from falling branches and just sun aging. I don’t use mine on all trips. If the trailer is in the shade I can move the panel to the sun. I have a connection at the transom like my shorepower. The plug is keyed so it can’t be connected incorrectly .

ParticipantIf you applied several coats of varnish, and didn’t bang into too many trees, the varnish will last years. The more it is covered and protected from the elements the longer it will last. If it starts to lift or peel, then time to refinish.
Grease the trailer wheels, tire pressure, check the lights and hitch, look at battery connection and lack of case cracking, air the cabin out, hit the road!

ParticipantI use an over-load guard extension cord to connect to shore power. It has an integrated 15 amp circuit breaker. I don’t know if they or others make a 20 amp cord.

ParticipantI am at a loss to explain.

ParticipantI drilled just a bit above pin clearance and then swabbed some epoxy inside using a q-tip.

ParticipantSecond what Adam said. If properly wetted the glass is transparent and the wood darkens and the existing epoxy streaks blend in. Your wood doesn’t look like it got wet. The next epoxy coat won’t be able to penetrate the first coat. The existing “stains” will stay visible, but maybe more concerning is the question of if the glass is really adhering to the wood.

ParticipantI’m confused. If you have already epoxied the fiberglass should already be transparent. Are you fully wetting the glass with epoxy?

ParticipantI bought mine kit at a wooden boat show that CLC was at. They discounted 10% plus a $100 gift card. I had just left the beer garden and when I saw the trailer I said “oh yeah, I gotta have that”.

ParticipantI thought it was at first but it compresses over time.

ParticipantI used backpack style clips on my straps so I can adjust tension. Have not had to adjust yet. Tentnomore’s solution is a great simple solution when installed without clips.
