I went ahead and bought the alcohol based stain from CLC.   Test great.    Here it is stain with light red mahogany.   The number 2 panel looks reddish and the rest looks dark.    It is just the lack of sun shining on it.

I have a stitch and glue kayak (Pygmy boats) that is built the same way as the camper.   I too have sanded an area a little too much and exposed the fiberglass pattern.    I coated the entire kayak with marine grade varnish and you can’t see any fiberglass.   To prevent the kayak from fading,  i recoat with varnish about every 5-7 years…depending on use.

Update…i tried Minwax Waterbased stain on a test piece and then, after 24 hour dry time,  i put a coat of resin on it.   The resin would “blotch” within the first hour of curing.    Minwax does not work.

Thanks JB.   To prevent the stain from penetrating,  I was planning on applying it with a rag…Almost a ‘dry rubbing’ of the cloth on the areas I want it.   I will test on some scrap wood.

    Cheers!

Here is a quick edit to my post…adding an image.

the arrows indicate where I want to stain…light mahogany for an accent.  will the panel joins be an issue?

    Thanks all,

since the alignment is pretty much set be the bulkhead and where it fits into the groove in the floor.  I was able to fit the rest of the sides in.   I will have to shim a small area,  but it would never bee seen.

Thanks Keaner21.    I thought of that,  but the gap was about 1/4 on one side and 1/2 on the other for the first 5-6 inches off the galley flat.  I wanted cleaner corners.  I cut and shaped 2 perfect replacement where there is no gap.

Thanks everyone.    That helps.  Unfortunately,  i will have to make new quarter panels.   The sides are too far apart (1/4 inch on each side) and since the filet on the galley flat is dry…cannot be pulled in.  There is a 1/2 inch gap on each corner of the quarter panel where it meets the side near the galley flat.  Oddly enoupgh,  2 panels were damaged in shipping and I can make them there.
