Purpose of Slot in top hatch flange spacer?

I just purchased the vent hatch kit from CLC…which comes with Top Hatch Flange Spacers (pg 218).  The spacers I received have a slot in one corner of one of the two spacers (see pic)  Whats the purpose of this slot?  What should its orientation be?

I’m guessing it could be for wiring into camper and should be oriented towards rear of camper with slot exposed facing down when looking up from inside camper.  Then cover with trim flange after tracking wires though slot.  Though not sure…

That’s the way I did it

It is for the wiring and it should face whichever way matches up with your wire run. Mine happens to exit the side .
