I used the Harbor Freight Folding Trailer #90154. It’s 4×8 ft, however, I shortened it about 20 inches or so.
It was my desire to not be banging my shins into the trailer’s end crossbar, tail lights, or license plate.
I did re-color the trailer with John Deere Green paint. It’s durable, easy to apply, and you can always find a retailer that carries it. The original red paint does require a bit preparation before it is painted with another color.
Did you install longer bolts to mount it to the trailer? The 5″ bolts that come with the kit are not long enough to go through both holes in the beam underneath. I am trying to decide in I should just put the nut on the inside of the beam or buy long bolts and nut it from the bottom of the beam?
Yes, I did install longer bolts – 6 inches. I had to deepen the bunks with strips of oak board in order to clear the trailer’s fenders. Others have used hockey pucks. My method has served me well.
I installed them as the manual directed and bolted underneath the trailer. Your installation will be much stronger if you drill completely thru the trailer rail.

I know this thread is a bit old now but I wanted to ask you about mounting your teardrop on the 4′ trailer. I know I sound like a newbie but what exactly do you mean when you say “deepen the bunks”? Obviously there needs to be some space between the bottom of the teardrop and the top of the trailer because the teardrop is wider than the trailer and it’s hanging over the wheels. I’m just having a hard time figuring out how it works.
I epoxied a strip of hardwood that was same length as bunks onto the bunks, making them deeper (or wider if you prefer) by a few inches. This illustration may help: www.memphisbagpipes.com/bunks2.jpg
